Paramore - After Laughter | Album Review

After Laughter is the fifth album by the infamous band Paramore, released on May 12, 2017. This album takes the delivery of the hits on their self-titled album, combines it with a mix of 80's and new wave vibes, and releases a very distinctive collection of works that is garnering a ton of critical acclaim. Full disclosure: even though the songs "Still Into You" and "Ain't It Fun" where at their peak during the time in which I was first starting to enjoy music, I'm not particularly fond of either. The delivery of the lyrics feels awkward, and after listening to the full Paramore  album, I'm still not a big fan of their 2013 work. Further down the line, I was never really hooked on Riot!  or their other albums, even though songs like "crushcrushcrush" (I do like it more now) should've been right up my alley. The opener and lead single, "Hard Times", sets a standard for lyrics that pretty much the entire album follows. Depre...

Scores for 4 Songs: Halsey - Now or Never, Harry Styles - Sign of the Times, kiiara - Whippin', and MØ - Nights With You

MØ - Nights With You This production is just SO fire. Something about brass in pop songs just gives me chills, and this is no different. I've also shared my love of ad-libs, and this song does that perfectly. The chorus feels kind of lacking somehow, but that's really the only issue I have with this song. The lyrics are really sweet, and we need more songs about friendship like this. It does seem a bit short somehow, and the end is a bit weird, but I always enjoy listening to this. 8/10 Halsey - Now or Never When this first came out, I was one of the biggest naysayers. Luckily for me, it's one of the biggest "growers" I've ever experienced. Like, a complete 180. I really do love everything about this song right now, it's nice and chill and the harmonies seem really nice. I don't like Needed Me, so this is a nice alternative to that for me. The production is really solid and just made for head-bopping. It's just the intonation of the words i...

The Chainsmokers - Memories... Do Not Open | Album Review

Sorry I'm so behind... I lost access to my major reviewing procedure, and I also have a ton of school. I hope to get back on track now! Memories...Do Not Open  is the aptly named debut album by the dynamic EDM duo The Chainsmokers. This album was certainly hyped a LOT... they had 5 top 20 hits in the last year, with Closer, Roses, Don't Let Me Down, Something Just Like This, and Paris , two of which are on this album. I have previously reviewed their EP Collage, which I highly disliked, with the lowest score on my blog of 28/100. Thankfully, this album surpassed my expectations, if just a little bit. The first thing to note about this album, which is certainly extremely strange, is that every single track is co-produced by DJ Swivel. This is rather weird for a supposed EDM group... Emily Warren, a singer/songwriter I rather like (especially with her song Capsize last year) also participates in a lot of the tracks on this album, lending uncredited features, writing credits, ...

Charli XCX - Number 1 Angel | Mixtape Review

Number 1 Angel  is a free mixtape by electropoppy singer/songwriter Charli XCX. Released on March 10, 2017, the method of everything about it is just so fundamentally different than everything that you normally see in the pop world. Released late due to her label pushing it back, it's the follow up to her Vroom Vroom EP, which I learned to enjoy after initially giving it a bad score, and the prequel to her upcoming studio album. Made with the help of many PC music type producers, such as AG Cook, Sophie, and Easy FX, many of the songs carry their unique hypersweet bubblegum fingerprints, while other tracks seem to be more traditional pop or hip-hop sounding. The first track quickly capitalizes on those more trap-y vibes that I mentioned. Starting with some kind of trippy production and a name drop, "Dreamer" quickly moves onto an extremely bass-heavy and completely fire chorus. Featuring Starrah and Raye, both of these artists have a verse following the first hook....

Updated Scores + Ranks for 3 songs : "I'm Poppy", "Heavy", and "Temperamental Love"

Hey guys, this is a bit more informal. These are the reviews I wrote on a different website for 3 recent songs. Temperamental Love - Bridgit Mendler and Devontee: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49-xItoatxg This song isn't very good on first listen. It grew on me after a few listens, but I have a few major criticisms with it: For one, it has really weird pacing. The tempo and volume change from the verses to Bridgit belting "temperamental love" is jarring and hard to listen to. In fact, that's probably the main reason I don't like this song: but that first name drop always hurts my ears. Second, I think that it has too much Devontee in it. I think that it'd be cool if he had one extra long verse for the bridge, and they both sang the second verse, and Bridgit got the first verse, a good transition from smoother Bridgit to rougher Devontee. Bridgit does sound really good in her verse/bridge, perhaps even a bit like Fergie during the ad-libs on the second vers...

Bebe Rexha - All Your Fault: Pt. 1 | Album Review

All Your Fault: Part 1 is the second EP by singer/songwriter Bebe Rexha. The first thing to be noted about this "album" is the completely messed up schedule. My sister used to be a major Bebe Rexha fan, so just using thing that she's told me, this album was supposed to be released in August 2016. It got pushed back so many times, until it was finally split into two parts and this first part was released on February 17th, 2017. It consists of 6 songs, and thankfully let go of the original lead single for AYF, "No Broken Hearts". That song would've definitely dragged the score down quite a bit. Notable producers include Captain Cuts, The Invisible Men, and Stargate. In my opinion, this EP could have been very successful following the big hit "Me Myself and I", with G - Eazy featuring Bebe Rexha, but that flopped in the end. Overall, this EP surprised me. I didn't really love it on the first or second listen, but after 8 or so listens, I enjoy ...

Big Sean - I Decided. | Album Review

I Decided. is the fourth album by the rapper Big Sean, released on the 3rd of February. This album is more serious than what Big Sean has ever released before now, while also having a lot of his classic bangers. It's filled with his charisma, and has some great production, from big names like Metro Boomin, DJ Mustard, DJ Dahi, and more. Kanye West is also listed as an executive producer, though it's unclear how much work he actually did on the album. This album feels like the natural progression of Big Sean's style evolution, bringing back the best parts of his old music with more mature themes from his new music. A very key part of Big Sean's music is his rather unique flow. Before this album, it was often predictable, but on I Decided,  Sean switches up flows more than ever, most likely as an attempt to distance his style from Drake. The two are often compared, and even though Drake himself said that Sean's flow inspired him, listeners to this album will undo...
